IM ENGAGED!!!!

My dearest Dfunkers!

Let me first say that I MISS YOU ALL so very much. I am constantly thinking about each of you and missing our time at JMU. I love looking at your pictures and such on facebook and reading the posts on here. Unfortunately, for now this is my only way of feeling somewhat connected to you all. I have been bad about keeping up to date on posts here, but I do read them and think about you guys on a regular basis. I figured it was about time I got on here and gave you an official update on my life. Sooo here it goes...

First of all, I recently (August) accepted a new job here in Richmond with Big Brothers Big Sisters as a "Match Support Specialist." I work with volunteers and children once they have been matched together and help to support the mentoring relationship in any way that I can. I help to support the matches in a way to create purpose and direction for the relationship to be effective. So far it has been a very rewarding experience and I am learning many new things! I plan to at least stay in this position for a year and then look into grad school or other options that will help me to further my goals. Other than work I have been hanging out with family and friends around here.

Okay...so onto the exciting NEWS!!!

As of October 18th, 2008 I am an engaged woman!! whoa. It is so crazy for me to think about, but yet exciting of course. Apparently, Daniel had been planning this day for a couple months now. He says that his birthday was a perfect excuse for him to plan a party so thats why he chose the 18th as the day he would propose. He had told me a couple weeks ago that he wanted to go to Williamsburg for his birthday. He loves history and seeing the sites. Williamsburg was the place of our first "all day date" about 4 years ago!! On our first "date" Daniel packed a picnic and we ate our sandwhichs along the colonial parkway by the river. So this time Daniel told me he thought it would be nice to have a picnic for his birthday. I,of course, offered to pack us something since it was his special day. Well, yesterday we headed down there in the morning and decided to go over to Jamestown to walk around. Daniel was REALLY interested in this part and now looking back he didnt seem nervous one bit. He was pretty normal the whole the time and I didnt suspect anything "abnormal." Now, I do admit that the thought of his proposing did cross my mind, but then again I have thought on numerous occasions that he would be proposing! haha.

So anyways, we finally get around to the picnic part. Daniel is driving around and insists that we find the exact spot we ate at for our first date. I did think this was alittle odd, but then again it would be special. So we find the spot and set up camp. I gave him my present and we ate the lunch I had packed. After sitting for awhile, I told him my foot was falling asleep. Daniel quickly said "well lets walk around some." So I agreed we walked close to the waters edge. I gave him a hug and looked up and in that moment Daniel looked down at me and said "Nicole, can I ask you a question?" I smiled really big and jokingly/sarcasitcally said "no" he gave me a big smile back as in that moment we both knew what was coming next. In an instant he was on his knee and I looked down at him and he said, "Nicole, will you marry me?" I was SO shocked! As he slipped the ring on my finger, I said YES of COURSE! I gave him a huge hug and started crying. There were so many thoughts going thru my head at this point. It was such a special day and moment for us both!

Turned out that Daniel's "Birthday party" doubled as an engagement party. We returned to Richmond, where Daniel had invited all of our family and friends to come together and celebrate this occasion. It was a great surprise! I cant tell you how overwhelmed and excited I was!

I feel at peace that this is where God has led us and that he is still leading us to some great things. I am excited about what He has in store...and wedding planning of course! Caroline...got any suggestions?? haha. Daniel I are going to begin working out the details and will most likely be in Richmond for the time being. Please pray for us as we embark on this new stage of our relationship. I cant tell you all how much your encouragement and prayers through the 4 years at JMU has meant to me. I think that this support and accountability has been a guiding light in my relationship with Daniel.

I cannot wait to see some of you soon! I am planning to go up to JMU for homecoming...and hope some of you plan to do the same! Can we try and work something out?? Caroline, I am praying for you guys and thinking about you. Well, this is getting long, but I promise to do better with keeping up! Thanks girls!

Love ya girls!

life, love and other mysteries.

(point of grace, anyone?)
Hey Dfunk!

Molly & Caroline, thanks for your updates. I think of both of you regularly (molly, i just found a picture of us together in NY in high school!) and i miss you very much!!

So here is the promised update from me-
As of yesterday evening, I am MOVED! i am down in virginia beach living with my brother. i'm technically not very moved in yet... my mom and dad came down for the weekend and essentially all of my stuff is still in the van. we are hanging out with some of my relatives that live in this area for the weekend and then as of monday it will be just me and my bro! i'm really excited for the change in location (i was going a little stir crazy at the house. i love spending time with my parents, but during the day i was always by myself and i never had anywhere to go. ugh.) i don't have a job yet, but i'm not too concerned about it. i am looking at volunteering at the aquarium here (you can scuba dive!) and maybe getting my lifeguard certification (a valuable thing for my line of work...haha). i am also looking at some other possibilities, but i honestly don't know how long i will be staying here. I have been hoping to move out to Madison, Wisconsin with my friend steph- from outward bound last summer- but things keep getting put on hold with that. Originally (as in during the end of spring semester) we had talked of moving to san francisco, but we visited there before i went to camp this summer and we both liked it, but not in the 'i really want to live here' sense. Plus san francisco= uber expensive. Anyway, Madison is where we have been thinking of most recently, but she isn't prepared to be moving until anywhere from november to january (depending on job hunting)... so i am going to definitely be in virginia until then & i may not even end up moving out there this year, so we'll see!

All that being said (sorry for such a long post, it has been a while since i've talked to many of you!) i feel like this opportunity to live with my brother is an amazing one. we have always gotten along, but he went to college when i went to middle school, so we haven't lived together in forever and we just don't really know each other that well. i am looking forward to spending more time with him and becoming friends! (please keep both of us in your prayers during this process! he has lived alone for quite some time and i've never lived with just one person, so it will be an adjustment for both of us!)

also- to majorly backtrack... camp was amazing this summer! i loved it so much and i would really like to go back. it isn't often that you get paid to have the time of your life and to work with such great people. (except of course when you work at dfunk camp!) also, i have a new love interest as a result, but he has a girlfriend. sigh. maybe i should just tell him to read our list? :) hahaha.

alrighty, i'll leave it at that so those of you who should be doing work or something aside from reading this blog will only have missed an hour of working time instead of two... (thankfully this post isn't actually that long.)

LOVE!

Hey hotties!
First of all, mad "props" to Jenny and Whitney for the blog make-over.....so SAUCY...and quite frankly another reason men should love us! haha! Oh what interesting conversations we D-Funkers find ourselves in, but that was an amazing post Jenny...thanks for publishing that for us and hopefully all men to read! :)

So, it is 12:12 a.m. on Tuesday night....I have class tomorrow....and I can't sleep .....probably attributable to the McDonald's sweet tea I drank a few hours ago. Nonetheless, you all have been on my heart and mind. I have been spoiled the past few weekends with D-Funkers coming to town to visit, and getting to hang out with some of you all again. I have found it to be a sense of JMU "normalcy" in my life in a time when things don't feel normal with so many people gone and graduated. Having D-funkers around just makes things feel "right" around here. Most of all though I find myself really CRAVING the fellowship we shared. I am missing it like crazy already! Thanks for being an amazing part of my four years, and if you think about it I am needing prayer for the friendships I am still building here in Harrisonburg, that I would be Christ to those around me, and that the Lord would work in me to be an authentic representation of our Savior....it is a challenge Most if not ALL days, but a worthy calling that I often lose perspective of. Also, I have been leaning on the basics of faith lately and finding daily that God is working to remind me that I am a child of the King. Ephesians 2:10. You are God's Masterpiece. You all are beautiful women of God who are doing amazing things for the Kingdom WHEREVER you are, so I hope that encourages you! I know I have needed a little reminding lately....aka God doesn't make trash!!! ;)

As far as an update on life, nothing too exciting here. Just trying to find the motivation to be a grad student....and all that entails! Lovin' me some JMU football season, and remembering that caffeine and my body are not friends late at night! :) I love you all, sorry this turned into a hodge podge of my reflections, thoughts, and randomness...but it's ME would you expect less!?

Love you ladies, and hope to hear from more of you soon,
Molly

updizate

Hey everyone! I love the blog makeover:) Well....after a very long day of traveling, Ryan and I arrived in Colorado yesterday safe and sound. I think you all know, but just in case you forgot, we are here for 3 weeks for missionary training with an organization called Mission Training International(MTI). I think it's going to be a really good experience. There is a couple here that is the same age as us and are going to be missionaries with Students International in Guatemala (same place we've been for 2 months!). And the guy is starting up a microfinance site, which is the same thing Ryan is doing. So I think we'll get along well.

We fly back into Baltimore Oct 3 and then are planning to spend the weekend in Harrisonburg. Soo.....if anyone wants to take a trip to Harrisonburg that weekend that would be amazing! I hope everyone is doing well!

Why every guy should want a Dfunker…
